Anita Dongre spoke exclusively to myShaadi.in about her Bridal Collection - 'The Jaipur Bride'. In the interview, she shared her inspiration behind the collection and also tips for myShaadi.in brides.
What is the inspiration behind the gorgeous 'Jaipur Bride' ?
Anita Dongre : Ever since I started designing, I have been inspired by everything from Jaipur – the colours, the textiles, the craftsman skills, the kind of embroideries etc. The collection showcased in this video has a lot of impressions of the beautiful pink city, especially the gota work. The video is shot in the beautiful Vidhyadhar Ji Bagh, a monumental garden in Jaipur. Thus, the Jaipur Bride.
How does this collection adorn a regular Indian bride who may not be very tall or skinny? (bride question originally- "I am not very tall or skinny, but everytime I check out a bridal collection, it is displayed on these gorgeous models, how do I know what looks good on me?")
Anita Dongre : The best way to chose your wedding outfit is to hold big swatches of colours against your skin and see which brings a glow to your face. Secondly, match the embroidery well with your accessories. It’s not about being tall and skinny, it’s about getting your colour and styling right.
What is the essence of an Indian Bride?
Anita Dongre : The combination of bridal lehenga and opulent jewellery completes the look of an Indian bride.
5 Secrets of becoming 'the Jaipur Bride'.
Anita Dongre : The Jaipur bride represents a blend of Indian craftsmanship and western finesse, the epitome of the Indian woman today.
Remember to always choose an outfit that suits your body type. If you are petite, make sure the lehenga is not too heavy in embroidery as it may look overpowering. However, if your problem area is your stomach then focus on outfits with long cholis and wide necks. If there is a particular design you love and want to utilize in your garments, make sure it is custom made so as to suit your body type.
A bride is always on her toes so footwear is crucial. In case you are uncomfortable in high heels, make sure you choose beautiful wedges that give you height and emphasize on comfort, perfect for your big day.
The cut of the outfit defines the overall look and as tradition with a modern twist is what every bride looks for, make sure your choli is perfect for you and in your comfort zone.
If your outfit is heavy in embroidery, make sure it does not overpower your jewellery choices and, vice versa. Take your jewelry to your designer before finalizing the outfit, so she can make your neckline and embroidery accordingly.
Choose colours that enhance your natural beauty and match your skin.
Your bridal wear 'Mantra'.
Anita Dongre : I love design, and I love the beauty each blushing bride exudes, and I think it is very essential that she is content with her sartorial choices for her special wedding days. She should not be weighed down with heavy lehengas, but should be able to have a good time and dance at her wedding.
