myShaadi: Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
Avantika: I grew up in Delhi and studied Economics from LSR, before moving to Mumbai in 2000. There I studied Mass communication, and got interested in Photography. Post graduation, I worked in Bollywood, starting my career as an Asst Director with Santosh Sivan on Asoka. Thereafter, I worked as the lead photographer for multiple films, including Dostana, Umrao Jaan,Saawariya,Kismet Konnection,Salaam e ishq etc.
In 2008, I relocated to Delhi and started working on my own studio, before I chose to take up wedding photography.
myShaadi: How did you get into wedding photography?
Avantika: While evaluating photographers for my own wedding, I discovered that there were very few options available for a bride to have a really personal experience. I felt there was a great need for quality candid photography, so I decided to take it up.
myShaadi: What is your favourite part of the wedding day to capture?
Avantika: I love the part when the bride is getting ready - that is when you see a full bouquet of emotions which bring about the best shots. The bride goes through a lot of emotions at that time - excitement, happiness, nervousness, anxiety, sadness - all at the same time. That is when you get really great photographs. Also, since I am able to connect and relate to the bride as a friend, I feel I have a distinctive edge capturing these moments.
myShaadi: What is the most awkward moment you've experienced while on the job?
Avantika: Can't think of any particular one-really
myShaadi: What's the best thing you ever ate at a wedding?
Avantika: I ate some fabulous desserts at the weddings I have attended. I really look forward to enjoying the chocolate desserts
myShaadi: What is one of the most favorite venues you have a shot at and why?
Avantika:Lake Como Italy - it is just so beautiful and a white church wedding there was a perfect setting. The beautiful place, the traditional setting and the fun crowd made it a memorable experience.
myShaadi: Nikon or Canon?
Avantika: I use Canon currently.
myShaadi: What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
Avantika:I would love to shoot a small wedding in a village in Europe or maybe some thing in Alaska or Antarctica.
myShaadi: What is the biggest lesson you've learned and would like to pass on to other budding candid wedding photographers?
Avantika: Candid means really capturing the right moment-not just any moment. You have to be really observant and patient. You have to be friendly and responsive at a wedding to help you get better photos. Just clicking is not enough.
