France - The Most Romantic Honeymoon Destination
Whenever one thinks of a perfect Honeymoon Destination, it is inevitable that Paris comes right on top of the list. France is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful & picturesque counties in the world. Any couple would have a an ecstatic experience if they chose France as their honeymoon location. We decided to get more insights on the country by speaking to an expert, Ms. Caroline Maincent, of French Touch Travel who talks about the mesmerizing beauty of her home country.
Why is France a preferred Honeymoon Destination among couples?
Caroline: I am very glad that my home country, France, was awarded the best romantic destination in the world earlier this year by Lonely Planet’s Indian readers. History and architecture give French cities and villages something special that it is difficult to express with words only. When you walk on the cobblestones streets, you really feel the cultural richness of the nation, especially in Paris. Many images of novels or movies such as Amelie or lately Midnight in Paris come to your mind and couples feel like heroes of a romantic story! Like Manish Arora, our brand ambassador, said in an interview about his most romantic spot in Paris, “This is a feeling, and can be anywhere in this magical city”.
What are the best places within France that a couple can visit while on a Honeymoon?
Caroline: Paris, the city of love, should be on the top of the list. There are so many romantic walks, rides, or cruises to enjoy with your beloved, or “bien aimé” in French, that it is difficult to choose the activities you want to do the most. At night, the best is definitely a candle lit dinner with champagne in a private luxury boat on the Seine, with the Eiffel tower shining in the background.
After a few days in this wonderful city, I like bringing my guests to the Loire Valley, a wealthy region famous for its castles, its French gardens and its vineyards. I advise them to spend two nights in a château for them to travel back in time and to experience the life of a royal couple. There, they should explore the area in a luxury or vintage car. They cross quaint medieval towns like Chinon, they visit beautiful castles like Chambord, they enter cellars to taste great wine and they discover traditional regional food.
If my clients prefer relaxing and having a seaside honeymoon holiday, I suggest them to go to Bora Bora, one of the most exclusive islands of the world. This remote French territory in the Pacific Ocean is just perfect for them. In the Méridien Hotel, they stay in their own luxury bungalow built over a clear and calm turquoise sea and go for a dive to observe colorful fishes. This place is a paradise on earth and it hard to go back to reality afterwards!
What does a customized itinerary for couples entail?
Caroline:At French Touch Travel, our first mission is to meet our clients’ needs and wishes. Since every couple is different, we take time to meet them, to listen to them and to understand their travel experiences to provide them with a honeymoon trip perfectly matching their expectations. A bespoke travel is unique you won’t find that authenticity in a package tour. Our guests tell us their dreams and we make them come true thanks to our expertise in French destinations and our network. On top of that, we pay extreme attention to details and assure the best of concierge services.
What are the best hotels to stay when visiting France?
Caroline:It depends on what people look for but most of my clients like staying in 4 or 5 * hotels. In Paris, I advise the ones who want to be pampered to stay in Plaza Athénée, next to the Champs-Elysées, to make the most of the Dior Institute. Shangri-La is ideal for couples who want to enjoy an amazing view from their room and who like blends of French and Asian interior design. When they prefer smaller and more intimate places, I know charming boutique hotels that are successful in all seasons. Sometimes, some couples tell me they want to stay in a place where they can experience the real France and be close to local people, far from touristic areas. In this case, I find unusual and elegant bed and breakfast properties where they can chat with their welcoming hosts and try typical home-made dishes. In the Loire Valley for instance, I like making them sleep in troglodytic houses.
Any specific activities a couple must experience or shopping places that they should visit?
Caroline: A must-do in Paris is the horse-drawn carriage ride around the Eiffel Tower. It is a bit cliché but so romantic! This once-in-a-lifetime ride is great for photographs. French newlyweds take pictures in the “calèche” in their wedding garments to have a unique souvenir of their first moments as a married couple.
A very chic place to shop is Boulevard Haussmann, very close to the majestic Garnier Opera building. You find the products from the best international luxury brands you have always dreamed about in the department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps and you get fine food in their classy food court. You can also hire a personal shopper to help you find the clothes which suit you best.
In the Loire Valley you will get a bird’s eye view of France’s glorious past and lush landscapes on a hot air balloon ride.
What is an approximate budget for a honeymoon package to France?
Caroline:We create luxury and tailor-made trips and we want our guests to experience the best of France. This is why, for a stylish honeymoon trip, our price usually start from Rs 250 000 per person for 8 days in France.
