"Corporate Bridezillas" : Story of a Working Bride to-be!
Shivani Pandey, who is now married shares her hilarious & chaotic wedding planning experience with myShaadi readers!!
How it all Began....
So you may have heard the "chat mangani pat bhyaa" concept, well my story starts there. Alok and me instantly liked each other when we were sent on an official date arranged by our parents!! :) We met in October, we decided that this is 'IT' by Jan. In Feb, we got engaged and the wedding was in April 2013 ..*phew* ...
"Take the loan before the banker find out who you really are" is my fiance's interpretation of his eagerness to marry me ! Like OK , but I thought we are in love haha ?! SO guys are quick on deciding vs how women take their time...! But when its right , you feel its right! If he makes you happy and giggle , just take the leap of faith! And that's what I did , "he can make me laugh" I told myself ...which has always been the most important thing to me ... like since EVER..!
I have coined a word called "Corporate Bridezillas", yes we are getting married , yes we want to glow and sit in the parlor all day dreaming BUT we CAN'T ! We are in back to back meetings, making a mental note of what all still needs to be done , we are making presentations and budgets while preparing the shopping list, basically we are the new age corporate brides , who want it ALL ... work & pleasure !
Thank fully the "wedding" details were worked out by my lovely family, so all I had to do was do stuff for myself, as logistics were a nightmare ( "WE" work in Bangalore, the wedding is in Banaras & my parents are in CG)! So began the marathon of buying the lehenga to things I needed for my honeymoon, jewellery etc etc ...I am DIY person and ran from pillar to post to see what is that gives me "IT" feeling ! Something I always visioned for my wedding - a good Wedding Photographer who does justice to these beautiful memories we are about to create, so we hired Nishal Lama through a colleague's refferal !
I am all about colors, it doesn't matter 'how expensive' or whether 'designer stuff' , you need to know what is that suits "you" in terms of colors and enhances your skin tone to make you look "Bea..U..tiful". Yummy color combinations like dull yellow & bubble gum pink, burnt orange & crimson red , forest green & hot pink, royal blue & golden is what I had imagine myself in , and I pretty much stuck to it. 'Samyak' in Bangalore has some unique designer collection which they get from Lucknow and is pretty much my taste in texture, embroidery work & yes COLORS!
Tips for brides to-be
My advise for women who are working & can't take off apart from wedding dates, is that ladies make a PLAN! Time management is crucial , you will have the evenings & weekends to do it all - shop, window shop, socialize *you are getting married* , entertain *lets party you are getting married*, parlor appointments , gym, nutritious diet (I cook my own meals). And the emotional catching up with this transition...so BRIDES away from all the home comfort & about to get married , do lots of deep breathing.. laugh a lot and specially when things are not turning out the way you want them to... talk to friends ...and most importantly ...talk to your better half about silly things and goof ups , it helps relieve you of all worries :) Cheers to the bridezilla bliss!
