Candid Wedding Photography - The Story Behind a Beautiful Shot
This Wedding season, the term 'Candid Photography' is the buzzword for young couples. Every couple wants to incorporate this concept into their wedding functions but is often misled or ill-informed on what 'Candid Shots' are all about. Well, we decided to give you a taste of it through some brilliant shots taken by Ms. Zainab Malubhai, a Dubai based photographer who narrates the story behind each shot as it was taken during the wedding celebrations...
These are shots of not just the couple, but the family and all those who attended the wedding and were part of the celebrations. The term 'candid' essentially means 'caught unaware'. It is that click which requires no preparation or posing on the part of the person, because the emotion itself is magnificent enough to be captured. It might just be a 'look' shared by a couple, a hand placed on someone's shoulder, the anxious look on the bride's face or the wetness in a mother's eyes. Yes, these are 'REAL' emotions that cause most people to shy away from the camera. But that's the job of a candid photographer....to help them cherish and save those precious memories forever.
Here are a few such pictures from real weddings taken by Ms. Zainab that will touch your heart and make you smile... as she tells us how and when she captured them...
During the wedding, both these kids were playing with each other till a third kid came and the boy got distracted. The girl kept looking at the boy to get his attention back, that went on for a bit till finally the girl kissed the boy!
The bride's mom could not get her eyes off her daughter, I caught her lovingly look at her daughter through the mirror while she was talking to her best friend. :)
Just before the official ceremony was to start, it was announced that an extremely close family member had passed away and they would like to observe a minute of silence to remember her. In the picture are the three brothers of the bride acknowledging the solemn moment.
The nikah ceremony was a small affair at home with family and very close friends. After the nikah was done, the groom got up and hugged his cousin brother who's also his closest friend. Very rarely do you get to see such an intense yet peaceful expression on the groom's face.
I love this image - it has the bride hugging her mother in law and her own mother is holding her hand on the side. It's actually the bidaai but all of them have smiles on their faces.
The bride's family performed a puja at their home in the morning of the wedding day followed by a short haldi ceremony. Here the bride's cousin had put a lot of haldi on her, she responded by giving her a tight hug and wiping off some on her white suit! A truly 'naughty' wedding fun moment :)
This is the bride's mother in law at the valima function. She was attending to the guests when she turned around and saw one of her close friends that she hadn't seen in a really long time, she was ecstatic to see her which led to this tight hug.
These are the parents of the groom right after the pheras were done. They are delighted, happy and full of love.
The groom, father of the groom and father of the bride laugh away to a joke cracked by one of the family members. These are what weddings are all about...humour and bonding with your loved ones...
This is the groom's sister and niece sharing a quite candid moment away from all the chaos.
The bride with her nieces, they both insisted on sitting with her on the stage and were constantly whispering something or the other in her ear, which led to that hearty laugh!
The pheras had just got done and everyone was standing around for the music to start, I signaled to the groom to do something and he sneaked up behind the bride, picked her up and swirled her around. She was totally caught off guard. What makes this image special is both the mothers cheering them!
This is one of those crazy images that you'll remember for a long time. The bride is surrounded by the groom's closest friends, they are all insisting that she starts doing the "chamiya" dance!
So you see, every shot has a beautiful story behind it and was taken without the knowledge of the protagonist...because if he or she knew that they were being clicked, it would not have been the 'Candid' shot it was meant to be!
